I just love this quote by Marianne Williamson from her book, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Every word resonates with me as fear finds its way into our lives on a daily basis. Often, we fear failure, but I find that we fear success more. Fear holds us back from achieving our full potential.
I believe that every person has a purpose to fulfil. We have our own unique gifts and talents that we have been given to help others.
Putting ourselves “out” there is scary. We stay in our comfort zones as play it safe.
“And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”
When we share our stories of success and failure we encourage those around us.
I often thought that it was the fear of failure that held me back, but as the years went by and I did not achieve the goals I set myself, I realized that it was the fear of success that was holding me back. It was the stories of other entrepreneurs that embraced their fear and did it anyway, that inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and to have the courage to put myself “out” there and dream bigger.
It is the light of others that has helped me find mine.
Blogging has also been one of my fears and taking part in the Ultimate Blog Challenge has helped me embrace my fear and with the support of the amazing community, I am bravely taking the steps to overcome this hurdle.
Do you have any fears that are holding you back? I would love to hear from you.
